2024 JDM Digital Media Creation Camp
On Monday July 8th, nine participants gained valuable knowledge about media when they attended the first JDM Digital Media Creation Camp. The students ranged from 6th graders to incoming Ashland University freshmen. Led by instructors Derek Wood and John Skrada, camp attendees created both audio and video projects. Plans are underway, with the support from co-sponsor AU Admissions, to hold a second camp in Fall 2024.

From time to time it is good to catch up on the careers of the Ashland University Journalism and Digital Media graduates. Many of them are changing jobs and moving up in the media profession. DMJ Senior Zoe Bogarty accepted into Tiffin University's Master's Program in Creative Writing
Senior Digital Media Journalism major Zoe Bogarty will graduate from Ashland University in early May 2024. However, her academic career will not end at that time. She was accepted into the Tiffin University's Masters of Humanities in Creative Writing program, beginning in Fall 2024. Zoe is an aspiring novelist, who will refine her craft at Tiffin University. Congratulations to Zoe!!!

AUTV wins Ashland University Student Organization of the Year award
AUTV was recognized at a Sunday April 21st event as the Ashland University Student Organization of the Year. The JDM department thanks all of the dedicated students (General Manager Ethan Jenkins, AUTV Board members, producers, talent and crew), staff (John Skrada Director of Broadcasting and Operations) and faculty (Dr. Dave McCoy AUTV faculty advisor) for their hard work and quality content creation.

WRDL will broadcast Vinylthon 2024 on Saturday April 20th and Sunday April 21st
For the seventh year, WRDL radio will live broadcast Vinylthon. Vinython 2024 will feature forty-eight hours of songs from vinyl records. Current JDM faculty, students, Ashland University faculty, JDM alumni and Radio-Television alumni will host various shows throughout the weekend. It all begins at 12 pm (Midnight) on Saturday April 20th. WRDL is broadcast on 88.9 FM in Northern Ohio and on wrdlfm.com on the web.

JDM Students present creative work at 2024 URCA Symposium
Three Journalism and Digital Media students presented their creative work at the 2024 Undergraduate Research & Creative Activity Symposium on Wednesday April 17th. Senior Digital Media Production Major Eleanor Lohr showed her short film "Pax Vobiscum (Peace Be With You)" while Senior Digital Media Journalism major Zoe Bogarty read from her novel "The House on Widowlane". Sophomore Digital Media Journalism major Lauren Gulden showed her short film "Love, Anon" in the afternoon session. Dr. David McCoy served as the faculty sponsor for both Lohr and Gulden's projects.

The Collegian, JDM's digital and print newspaper, received four Ohio News Media Association awards at the April 4th, 2024 annual conference in Columbus, Ohio. The awards are as follows:

AUTV and WRDL gain six national Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Finalist Awards
The Journalism and Digital Media department's two electronic media co-curricular media organizations recently were named as Finalist Award winners (top 6) for multiple media categories in the 2024 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System national competition. The First Place Awards will be named at the national IBS convention in March.

Dr. Dave McCoy interviewed on historical documentary program
Dr. Dave McCoy, chair and associate professor of Journalism and Digital Media, was interviewed on the new documentary program "PBS Western Reserve: A Study in Persistence." McCoy shared his obeservations on the historical inception of the medium of television and its subsequent impact on on local community broadcasting. The documetary can be viewed on-air at WNEO/WEAO Channels 45/49 or streaming on-demand from the station's website.
