Matt Tullis, an assistant professor of journalism and digital media and the adviser of The Collegian, had a story selected as a notable sports story in Best American Sports Writing 2013."Feet of Clay, Heart of Iron" was published by SBNation Longform in October 2012. It chronicled horseshoe pitcher Brian Simmons as he tried to win his second consecutive World Horseshoe Pitching Championship.
The story had already been selected as one of 102 Spectacular Nonfiction Stories from 2012 by Byliner.com.
The book, which comes out today, is edited by Glenn Stout. This year's guest editor was J.R. Moehringer.
This is the second time a story by Tullis has been selected as a notable story in BASW. The last time happened in 2008, when his story "Perfect Pitch," also about horseshoe pitching, was selected. That story was published in the Columbus Dispatch.
