JDM students receive awards at the 2025 AU Academic Honors Convocation

Three JDM students were honored at the April 13th AU Academic Honors Convocation. Senior Digital Media Journalism major Katelyn Meeks, junior Digital Media Journalism major Lauren Gulden and sophomore Digital Media Journalism/Digital Media Production double major Dashia Johnson were feted at the ceremony. Congratulations to our scholarly students!

JDM majors present at the 2025 Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Symposium

Seven Ashland University Journalism and Digital Media majors presented their creative and scholarly work at the April 8th URCA Symposium held at Ashland University. Senior Abigail Hassenzahl described her Honors Capstone Thesis Assassin's Secret. JDM junior Lauren Gulden, senior Ethan Jenkins, junior Joe Monteith and senior Stephen Struckmann provided insight into their collaborative work on Producing Election '24. Senior Katelyn Meeks gave a talk on research for her Ashbrook Thesis How College Students Reconcile the Use of Generative AI with Their Personal Ethical Principles. JDM sophomore Dana Krukovska and Katelyn Meeks detailed their efforts on A Public Relations Campaign for EveryLibrary. JDM Chair Dr. Dave McCoy and Professional Instructor Kelly Meyer served as Faculty Sponsors for the JDM students.

On May 3rd, Ashland University held its 2025 Commencement. Journalism and Digital Media majors and minors walked across the stage to receive their hard-earned diplomas. Jay Pappas receives first Richard D. Leidy Alumni Award

On Saturday April 5th, the Ashland University Alumni Board bestowed the first Richard D. Leidy Alumni Award to Jay Pappas. Not only was Jay a graduate of the Ashland College Radio and Television program, he was also a faculty member, Coordinator of radio and General Manager of WRDL. Jay was a cornerstone of an excellent Radio and Television program, along with Richard D. Leidy and Larry Hiner. The Journalism and Digital Media department and WRDL would not be where they are today with the guiding influence, professionalism and support of Jay Pappas.

88.9 WRDL will again host Vinylthon live event

On Saturday April 12th and Sunday April 13th, 88.9 WRDL will join hundreds of radio stations across the country and the world to celebrate the unique audio format of vinyl records. Vinylthon 2025 will be the tenth anniversary as WRDL will play only vinyl records for 48 hours. Journalism and Digital Media students, faculty and staff will serve as on-air personalities, as well as Ashland University faculty, Radio/Television and JDM alumni and friends of the station.
